Madam Sombo Kawilila is a dedicated public servant, currently serving as the Town Clerk of Luanshya. She was appointed by the Local Government Service Commission, succeeding Mr. Zakeyo Mbao, who was transferred to Chinsali Municipal Council.

Education and Experience

Ms. Kawilila is a qualified lawyer and an advocate of the High Court of Zambia, bringing extensive legal expertise to her role. Before her appointment as Town Clerk, she served as the Principal Officer for Mansa and Chinsali Municipal Councils. Additionally, she held various key positions in the legal departments of Ndola and Kitwe City Councils, including Director of Legal Services.

Achievements

Under her leadership, the Luanshya Municipal Council has become actively involved in the Make Zambia Clean Green and Healthy Campaign, in which the Council has taken up the leading role. Ms. Kawilila has introduced innovative revenue generation strategies and responsive service delivery initiatives, which led to the council receiving the 2024 National Integrity Award for Most Improved Service Delivery Organization in the Local Government Sector, recognized among 116 local authorities nationwide.

Notable Projects

The Restore Luanshya Campaign is one of the notable Council Projects. The initiative was launched in July 2022, this flagship initiative focuses on infrastructure development and aims to reclaim Luanshya’s status as Zambia’s Garden Town. The campaign has played a crucial role in advancing the district’s development under the guidance of Mayor Charles Mulenga.
