LUANSHYA CENTRAL CONSTITUENCY EMPOWERS 120 COOPERATIVES WITH K2.9 MILLION CDF GRANTS FACILITY
Luanshya District Commissioner (D.C) Paul Malele says the Government is committed to use Constituency Development Fund (CDF) grants to give support to cooperatives which will be used as models presenting a series of viable solutions for addressing poverty and employment creation challenges in the district.
Mr Malele expressed optimism that effective disbursement of CDF grants to cooperatives and community based organisations would transform Luanshya to build resilient communities lifting individuals out of poverty and creating sustainable pathways for future generations.
He said that cooperatives empower individuals and communities by giving them a voice in decision-making processes.
The Luanshya DC officiated as Guest of Honour ,during the Official Launch of the 2025 Luanshya Central Constituency 2025 CDF Grants worth k 2,490,500-00.The Luanshya Central CDF grants have been disbursed to a total of 120 cooperatives.
The benefiting cooperatives are expected to receive funding ranging between K20, 000-00 and K40, 000-00 to finance various business projects which among others include, block making, bakery, plastic recycling, winter maize farming, retail and wholesale trading , village banking, fish farming, piggery and farming projects.
Mr Malele explained that diversification among cooperatives reduces vulnerability to market fluctuations and increases resilience against economic shocks.
Speaking during the same event Luanshya Mayor Charles Mulenga said the Local Authority was doing everything possible to facilitate and support the opening on strategic industries which would supports the th of CDF business projects being managed by various local communities.
Dr Mulenga cited the re-opening of Shaft 28 Mine, the establishing of an Ethanol Production Plant in Maposa area coupled with the creation of cassava out grower schemes, the creation of a 200 megawatt solar electricity plant in Muva Hill area as some of the projects aimed creating an enabling environment for CDF financed projects to thrive.
Luanshya Central CDF Committee Chairperson Sherry Coleman disclosed that out of over 500 applicants 120 cooperatives were successful and shortlisted to receive the seed money.
Professor Coleman urged the successful 2025 CDF Grants beneficiaries to use the money for the intended purpose apart from working hard ensuring that the seed money was used to start businesses stated in the project application forms .
A 2025 CDF Grants beneficiary Moses Kabangwe from Together We Stand Multipurpose Cooperative Society in Kamuchanga Ward said CDF was real and he urged the Local Authority to continue facilitating for the implementing of various business projects in Luanshya.
